Analysis

John at Gaglione Strength makes sure all of his equipment that he provides for the gym is high quality. He spends thousands of dollars to get the best quality mono lifts (for squatting) and barbells. He even just made a huge purchase on a belt squat. The belt squat is for squatting, but its for assistance work too.

Even though it's not a main movement, he still feels that it is important for his athletes to have the best. John wants his gym to provide everything, as a result, his athletes will ever need extra supplies and to show newer people who will come to his gym that everything they will need, they are going to find at his gym.

INFORMATION SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Software

The software that Gaglione Strength uses is Pike 13 and Edufii. There were a lot of other software's that John could have started to use and he could have continued to use but both of these 2 were the best choices.

Pike 13 deals with all of the sales transactions that he makes. When a client first signs up with him they are directed towards that website. Here they are sent an invoice to pay for the coaching and they are asked around ten or so questions. These questions usually have to do with their training history and any large training numbers that they have hit. This is so John can get a better idea of where their training is currently at so he can best help them. As soon as the client completes the questions and they pay what is due, John gets an email sent to his computer so he knows it is done and he can start a training template for them. Clients can also sign up for a training session using Pike 13, John had that put into the website so it is easier for everyone to view the gyms schedule and when there is a training session and the client can put themselves in their.

Hardware

The hardware is all the physical tools used for the information systems. Some of the hardware are computers (and monitors) used by John and his employees (his coaches and admin assistant) at their desks or even at home because John doesn't stop running his business even after he is finished at the gym for the night. Gaglione Strength also uses video cameras to video everyone's training so he can watch how their form is after the training session and evaluate what needs to be worked on. He also uses his phone to communicate with his clients and too book appointments for them to come in. He uses his phones to watch peoples form for their squat, bench and deadlifts. There is also an “Inbody” scale at the gym, which is a body fat analyzer that measures body fat, muscle mass and body composition. John uses this for his nutrition clients so he can see their starting point and the progress that they make over time.

Data

The data is the information stored on all of the software that was mentioned above. It is extremely important. The data consists of clients' addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and training numbers (bench, squat and deadlift). This information needs to be up to date especially the training numbers to ensure that John can see progress made and to modify it if needed. The data also shows who is coming to the gym and who has not been there in a long time, this way John can keep track of his clients and reach out to some if they haven't been there. John at Gaglione Strength wants to ensure his business is growing and that his clients are satisfied.
Procedures

Due to the nature of a powerlifting/strength gym business, there are daily procedures and day to day tasks that need to be done at Gaglione Strength. For example, when clients sign up for a training session whether it be the early morning or evening, John needs to make sure that there are coaches at the gym to help with the sessions. There are some sessions that are less busy than others so that needs to be a factor also since there doesn't have to be as much help with sessions with less people. Also John needs to follow procedures when someone sends an email with interest in coming to his gym or becoming a distant client. When he receives an email from them, he must follow up (sometimes almost immediately) so he could schedule a 20-30 minute phone consultation to understand their goals and what they want out of his coaching.

People

Gaglione strength employees and his clients (in person or distant) are the people who keep his business operating. Without his coaches, he would not have any help with running his gym and it would not operate at smoothly. The coaches are the ones, besides John who interact with the people who come in and help them out with training. If some training sessions are not running correctly, they are usually the first ones to see the problem and they adjust their numbers for the day. Without the clients (in person or distant) John would not have his successful business or his business at all for that matter. His clients are the ones who bring in money and most importantly, they are the ones who help encourage John to do what he loves, without the clients, there would be no powerlifting gym.

Information Silo

Information silos occur when data is not shared throughout all the departments of the company. Gaglione Strength has information silos, all of his work that he does on the computer does not get shared with his other coaches. So he needs to tell them all the training numbers and he needs to tell them what the plan for the day is. His clients also can't see the information that he puts into his computer. So if they need to know training numbers they need to ask him. If this was easily accessible to everyone (coaches and clients) somethings would probably run a lot smoother.

Social Media

John at Gaglione Strength uses a variety of social media like Facebook and Instagram and YouTube to get connected and build relationships with more people in the powerlifting world and to advertise for his gym. John posts on Instagram and his Facebook page (both business one and his persona one) every single day. He puts out motivational posts, technique for lifting posts, and then shout outs to his clients. This sets him apart from other powerlifting coaches because he recognizes his clients everyday and he writes posts about them. This not only makes his clients feel good but it also makes him look good to an outside person who may want a powerlifting coach and they don't know who to choose. John has made many long lasting relationships throughout his powerlifting and coaching career and social media has been his way of meeting a good portion of them and lasting long term. On Johns YouTube, there are multiple videos to help different people with questions about lifting and training advice, you can also see videos of what his gym looks like and his training.

Social Capital: the investment in social relations with the expectation of returns in the marketplace.

Social Capital= number of relationships * relationship strength * entity resources

John at Gaglione Strength says that relationships are what build a strong foundation in anything that you are trying to accomplish. Success comes in numbers and if you are around people who challenge you, you grow. John has over 1000 followers on Instagram and over 10,000 friends on his personal and business Facebook page. He has made countless relationships on his social media platforms because a lot of athletes and coaches want to get to know him more, they see that he is helping out a bunch of people so when John helps out people, he gets the favor in return.
